Steakloft,

369 West Main Street, Northborough, (508) 393-8134.

Though the menu is heavy on meat selections, there are plenty of things for those preferring seafood or chicken. Appetizers are mostly standard pub fare; try mesquite chicken roll-ups. They're flour tortillas, cigar-like in shape, stuffed with spicy chicken, salsa, and cheese. Sirloin portabello, a thick cut accompanied by slices of the meaty mushrooms in a wine glaze with a dash of Worchestershire sauce, is a good beef choice. A big surprise was the careful cooking of seafood. Fresh salmon filet served blackened in a crust kept the fish moist, while adding a spicey taste; scallops Rockefeller are served over pasta in a rich cream sauce that also contains Parmesan cheese, chopped spinach, and bits of crispy bacon.
